Ninth Annual Take the Troops Fishing Event

Oddfish

This year we took about 20 troops from Camp Lejeune fishing. Five to seven foot seas kept the boats in shore again this year and the 85% chance of thunderstorms had us wondering if we could be successful at all. At 0600, however, the sky cleared and we had a dry, if breezy, day on the water. When we lit the charcoal for the picnic, a nasty thunderstorm came up, but passed about two miles north of us, only giving us a five minute splash of water that cooled a really hot day. Event chair Terry Peed made a short speech thanking the troops for their service and then handed out some gear, some passes for fishing events and T-shirts

Major supporters of the event were Nancy Lee Fishing Charters in Swansboro, Dr. Ed and Mary Ann Watkins, Bogue Inlet Fishing Pier and the Continental Shelf headboat in Morehead City. Additional support was provided by Piggly Wiggly, Tom and Joe's Sport Center, Coastal Marine and Sports, and Food Lion of Swansboro and Osprey Oakes Marina.

After fishing, we had a chance to visit with troops while we waited for the food to cook. picnic
